Rules
and Regulations
1. WPCSA Bronze Sanction Performance - Bronze In hand Classes. All Classes for National points are included by the Prefix “WPCSA”
2. Entry Fees: $ 10 per class for halter Classes, $10 for Performance and $15 for Stakes classes.
ATTENTION CANADIAN EXHIBOTORS – all fees are in US funds, please send in a money order in US funds or figure fees with the exchange rate.
3. Returned Checks: A valid check for all fees ( no open checks ) bouncing checks will be charged $50 per check and the Society notified within 30 days
4. Measurement: All WPCSA Reg. Animals six or over Must either be in possession of a WPCSA/USEF (Formally AHSA) permanent measuring card or be measured before being showed in either a breed or performance class. All performance animals under six must either be in possession of a complete WPCSA measurement card or be measured. Exhibitors who are not members of the WPCSA must pay a $5 measuring fee, payable with entries.
Copy of Measurement card must Accompany Entry Form. Measuring times will be posted in the office.
5. Class Restrictions:
Open Classes : No restrictions as to section of pony / cob and/ or age of rider unless specified.
Novice– Never having won more than 3 first places in that classification.
6. Junior exhibitors must wear approved protective headgear (ASTM/SEI) at all times whenever mounted or in a driven vehicle at all times while on the show ground. Harness must be secured and properly fitted. Any rider violating this rule at any time must immediately be prohibited from further riding until such headgear is properly in place.
7. General Rules: This show is conducted in accordance with the rules of the WPCSA. This prize list is based on the current Rule book , any changes or corrections of the rules will automatically become part of this prize list. Each participant in this show is responsible for knowledge of and is subject to the WPCSA rules. Specifications of the current WPCSA rule book will be conducted and judged in accordance therewith. Questions not covered by the WPCSA Rule Book shall be decided by the show committee and it’s decision shall be final. Any protest must be filed in the manner prescribed by the WPCSA. Open classes follow
USEF (Formally AHSA), ADS and WPCSA rules unless otherwise specified.
8. Indemnity Clause; All entries are accepted with the understanding the NWWC, AWE, and the WPCSA will not be held responsible for any loss, damage, or injury to any person, animal exhibited or any article of any kind. All ponies/cobs shall be under control at the direction of the show management but solely at the risk of the exhibitor, who will be responsible for any loss, damage or injury to any person, animal or property occasioned by him, his agent or employees, or by any animal owned or exhibited by him, and shall indemnify the NWWC, AWE, and the WPCSA against all legal costs, including attorney fees which maybe incurred as a result thereof. The submitting of an entry form to the show secretary shall constitute an acceptance by each person signing same of the provision set forth herein.
9. Judges: In the event that a designated Judge is unable to perform his/ her duties, the show committee reserves the right to substitute another qualified judge. Any exhibitor whose act or remarks made during the show are considered offensive and/or made with intent to influence or cast aspersions on the judge maybe barred from the show for this offense by the show committee. No one shall approach a judge with regard to a decision at anytime unless he/she first obtains permission from the show committee or steward who shall arrange an appointment with the judge at a proper time and place.
10. General Rules: If at anytime there are more entries than can safely perform, due to the size of the ring and /or the sizes and numbers of entries, the class maybe divided. This will be done by the Show committee and for the judge before the Class
11. Special Notice: Exhibitors are warned that any act of discourtesy or disobedience to the Officers of this show on the part of the owner, lessee, agent trainer, groom, rider or diver will disqualify the pony/ cob from adjudication. The management reserves the right to remove an animal, owner, lessee, agent, groom, trainer, rider, or driver from the show without being liable for compensation or damages. Any excessive use of the whip on any animal in a stall, trailer, show ring or elsewhere on the competition grounds, before or during competition, by any person will cause the violator to be barred from further participation
for the remainder of the competition.
12. Ribbons will be given out 1st through 5th.
13. Stake class money will be split $25 for 1st & $15 for 2nd
14. No one under the age of 18 may handle or ride a stallion on the grounds.
15. Helmets to be worn on the grounds at all times while on your equines.
16. No Alcohol on grounds at all.
17. Dogs must be on leashes or confined at all times. If not, fine will be applied
18. Eligibility: All ponies/cobs/half-Welsh must be registered with the Welsh Pony and Cob Society of America, Inc., the WPCS, or, if under one year, be eligible for registration. Only animals registered with the Welsh Pony and Cob Society of America, Inc. will receive points. An animal must be shown under his full registered Welsh number and name. Before an animal is assigned a number or enters the ring, the Show Secretary must have a copy of the Welsh Certificate of Registration in the current owner’s name and current Coggins test, when required. If the animal is under one year and not yet registered, submit a copy of the
dam’s Certificate of Registration, the registration number and registered name of the sire and the proposed registration name of entry. Unnamed foals may not be shown. A breeding pony may not be shown in both Section A and Section B classes, nor may a cob be shown in both Section C and Section D classes during the same year. All lease agreements must be officially recorded through the Society office. All recorded leases are designated as such on animal’s Certificate of Registration. Leased animals being shown must present a copy of registration listing the lessee.
19. Division Championship: In case of a tie, it shall be settled by the flip of a coin. No championship points can be awarded in any division unless all three of the scheduled classes in that division have been held. All three of the WPCSA division classes must have three or more exhibitors showing in each class for championship points to be awarded.
Points for championships will be calculated as follows for all performance divisions: 1st - 5 points, 2nd - 3 points, 3rd - 2
points, 4th - 1 point
20. Post Entries: Post entries are accepted only up to 2 hours before your class session begins. No post entries for In-Hand classes will be accepted after 8 p.m. Friday
21. Food is available on the show grounds.
22. Veterinarian, Farrier, Medical – all listed in Show Office.
23. Courses will be posted at least one hour before the scheduled time of the class. Extra copies may be available at the Show Secretary’s Office.
24. Refund Policy: No refunds will be given unless a class is canceled, or upon presentation of a Vet Certificate or Doctor’s note. The Show Manager’s discretion will be used in other instances.

Every entry at a WPCSA sanctioned show shall constitute an agreement and affirmation that all participants:
1) Shall be subject to the rules of the WPCSA and the local competition/facilities;
2) Every animal and exhibitor is eligible as entered;
3) Agree to be bound by the rules of the WPCSA, the USEF and local competition, and accept any final decision of the WPCSA or competition on any questions arising under said rules and agree to hold the competition and its officials, directors, employees, and agents, the WPCSA, their officials, directors, and employees, AWE and its officials, directors, employees, and agents harmless for any action taken;

WPCSA Class Specifications
WPCSA BREED CLASSES (Article 110.2): Animals are to be shown in hand at a walk and a trot except in group classes. Purebred Welsh to be judged 85% on breed type, conformation, way of going, quality and substance and 15% on disposition and manners. Natural reaching action is desired. Half-Welsh to be judged 85% on conformation, way of going, quality and substance
and 15% on Welsh breed type, disposition and manners.
WPCSA RIDDEN COB WELSH CLASSIC SEC. C & D (Article 115.7): This class is for registered Welsh Cobs and Welsh Ponies of Cob Type 4 years of age and over. To be judged 50% on performance and 50% on conformation. To be shown at the walk, trot, canter and gallop, displaying Welsh movement as described in the breed description. An individual performance showing all gaits on each rein by each participant will be required (the gallop need only be shown in one direction). Each animal will then be stripped for conformation judging. In case of a tie the animal with the higher riding score will take precedence. UK Judge or qualified American Judge to officiate. Split by age of rider before Section of entry.
WPCSA RIDDEN WELSH CLASSIC SEC. A & B (Article 115.8): This class is for registered Welsh Ponies, Section A & B, 4 year of age and over. To be judged 50% on performance and 50% on conformation. To be shown at the walk, trot, canter and gallop, displaying Welsh movement as described in the breed description. An individual performance showing all gaits on each rein by each participant will be required (the gallop need only be shown in one direction). WPCSA Leadline Walk: Classes open to riders 7 & under mounted on ponies/cobs/half-Welsh. Judged on equitation and suitability of mount. To be led by an adult or a junior age 12 or over. Both handler and rider to be appropriately attired. English or Western attire is acceptable. No chain leadlines. Riders
ineligible for other ridden classes except costume, leading rein, leadline walk-trot. To walk and stand quietly.
WPCSA Leading Rein: Section A or B, C or Half-Welsh, mare or gelding, 12.2 hands and under, to be ridden by junior exhibitors at least four, but not more than eight, years of age. The leading rein to be attached to the cavesson on the English bridle and on the Western bridle to the cheek slot of the bit (top of the bit) while leaving control of the pony to the child. No chain leadlines allowed. To be shown on light contact and to be led by an adult. To be shown at a walk, on the right rein, to line up and stand quietly. Ponies will be called out individually to stand, walk out and trot or jog back past the judge. Ponies to be judged on manners, suitability, breed type, conformation and turnout. There are no restrictions on competing in other divisions or classes for the pony or rider.
WPCSA WALK (Article 115.5): Classes open to riders 11 & under mounted on ponies/cobs/half-Welsh. Judged on equitation and suitability of mount. To walk both ways of the ring. English or Western attire is acceptable. Riders ineligible for other ridden classes except costume, leading rein, child’s first pony, walk-trot, walk-trot poles
WPCSA WALK-TROT (Article 115.5): Classes open to riders 11 & under mounted on ponies/cobs/half-Welsh. English or Western attire is acceptable. Riders ineligible for other ridden classes except costume, leading rein, child’s first pony. Judged on equitation and suitability of mount. To walk and trot/jog both ways of the ring. Possible tests to include: walk, trot /jog, turn, halt and rein back at spots marked.
WPCSA English Pleasure: To be shown at a walk, trot and canter both ways of the ring on light contact without martingale. To be judged 75% on performance, manners movement and style: 25 % on breed type and conformation. Working classes to be judged 100% on performance.
WPCSA Pleasure Driving: To be shown to a suitable two or four-wheeled vehicle or a four-wheeled vehicle for pairs, but not a viceroy, racing sulky, or fine harness rig. To be shown both ways of the ring at a walk, working trot and trot on and stand quietly and except for tandems, to back readily.
Conformation: To be judged 75% on performance, manners, movement and style; 25% breed type and conformation. Entries chosen for a workout may be worked both ways of the arena at any gait requested by the judge and may be asked to execute a figure eight.
Working classes: To be judged 100% on performance. Entries chosen for a workout may be worked both ways of the arena at any gait requested by the judge and may be asked to execute a figure eight.
Removing the bridle from an animal harnessed to a vehicle, or leaving an animal unattended while hitched, anywhere on the show grounds, will result in instant elimination and removal from the show grounds.
WPCSA CARRIAGE DRIVING (Article 113.2): (wire wheeled vehicles can be used if stated in prize list.) In addition to the gaits detailed in the pleasure driving section (Article 113.1), carriage driving also requires the slow trot which is slower and more collected but not to the degree required in the dressage collected trot. The animal should indicate a willingness to be driven on the bit while maintaining a steady cadence. Turnout to be judged 40% on performance, manners and way of going; 30% on the condition, fit and appropriateness of harness and vehicle; 15% on neatness and appropriateness of attire; and 15% on overall impression. Working class to be judged 70% on performance, manners and way of going; 20% on condition and fit of harness and vehicle; 10% on
neatness of attire.
Obstacle/Cones to be Judged 100% on performance. Rules for obstacle/cones need to be added to prize list. Carriage Driving Working Pattern/Test to be judged 60% on execution of test or pattern, 20% on manners and way of going, 20% on condition and fit of harness, vehicle and neatness of attire.
WPCSA Western Pleasure: To be shown at a walk, jog and lope both ways of the ring without martingale on a reasonably loose rein without undue restraint. To be judged on performance, with emphasis on manners 65%; breed type, conformation and movement 25%; appointments 10%. Working classes are judged 100% on performance.
WPCSA Conformation Western Pleasure: To be shown at a walk, jog and lope both ways of the ring without martingale on a reasonably loose rein without undue restraint. To be judged on performance, with emphasis on manners 65% breed type, conformation and movement 25% appointments 10%.
WPCSA Stock Seat Equitation: Classes are open to ponies/cobs/half-Welsh. Riders to be judged on seat, hands, performance of animal, appointments of animal and rider and suitability of animal to rider. Riders enter the ring at a walk or jog and are judged at a flat-footed four beat walk, two-beat jog and a three-beat lope both ways of the ring. All competitors are required to back a straight line during the line up. Tests may be required.
WPCSA Hunt Seat Equitation under saddle: Classes are open to ponies /cobs/ Half welsh. To be shown at the walk, trot and canter both ways of the ring and to be judged on the rider’s appearance seat, hands and over all control of the mount. Tests maybe required.
Sport Pony Type In hand : To be judged on Sport Pony Type. Head should be Small and regal with defined jaws (no puffiness), a clean throatlatch, kind eyes, nostrils that are large and wide and small ears. Neck should flow into head and shoulders smoothly, no thick throat latch and U-neck. Body should head towards a riding type, smooth and flowing down to the crop. Tail set medium on the hind end. Movement Regular and correct cadence with a large and equal stride. Even, energetic and elastic rhythm. No exaggerated knee action. Exhibits significant impulsion from the hindquarters. Legs should be straight and clean. Open to all breeds of ponies, no registration required. Single judged.
English Show Hack - Open to adults and juniors, Section A, B, C, D, and 1/2 Welsh - Suitable for a well trained pony, cob or half welsh—to show balance and lively and animated character – To be shown in Hunt or dressage attire, regulation snaffles, pelhams and full bridles with cavesson nose bands; NO DROP NOSEBANDS - Martingales and breastplates are not allowed – Extended and Collective gaits will be called for: i.e. collected walk, trot, and canter, normal walk, trot, and canter, extended walk trot, and canter, and hand gallop - Maybe asked on the rail to halt and rein back - horse shall perform all these gaits with a noticeable transition between the gaits and appearing to be giving a comfortable and pleasurable ride
WPCSA Showmanship: Classes will be offered for exhibitors ages 12 and under and 13-17 years of age. Classes to be judged on presentation and showman’s ability to show his/her pony/ cob. 40% of the judging is on neatness and appearance of the showman, pony and tack. 60% will be based on the exhibitor’s ability to present his/her cob. Exhibitors will be informed of the judge’s choice of pattern to be used, before entering the ring.
WPCSA TRAIL (Article 115.3): English or Western equipment. Open to all ponies/cobs/half-Welsh. To be shown over and through obstacles at a walk, optional trot or jog and optional canter or lope. To be judged 100% on performance. Juniors will not side pass nor lope/canter over loose rails.
In Hand Trail – Open – WPCSA Rules will be in effect.
Novice Trail Walk/Trot – Open – WPCSA Rules will be in effect.
Reg Welsh Walk/Trot Western Pleasure – Novice Rider/Welsh – WPCSA Rules will be in effect.
